Maiden Lane BAME Women's Project works with local volunteers in engaging and supporting women in the community. Our aim is to empower, integrate and educate them into living more fulfilling lives and enriching lives.
The Project does this through an extensive range of activities and groups including:
The Project supported women during the pandemic primarily though telephone conversations and WhatsApp channels and later face to face meetings with social distancing.
In the Post-Covid period and particularly during the cost-of-living crisis, we have supported BAME women in the community facing extreme hardship especially families who have been disproportionately affected by the virus - both socially and economically. Support with food parcels, language skills and financial and employability training is being provided to help the women to manage their immediate needs and move forward with their lives.
The Project does this through an extensive range of activities and groups including:
- weekly breakfast mornings
- discussion sessions on women’s issues
- employment advice and guidance
- financial capability training
- emotional support and confidence building
- enterprise support
- raising awareness of the importance of voting to effect change
- support with mental health and those that are at risk of or survivors of domestic violence.
